Hi guys! I have been thinking about how AI affects the environment in the negative ways. I decided to make a post about it today.
You have heard about AI’s impacts on the environment. For some, it is more positive than negative, and some of those positive effects are flat out LIES. For others you have heard more negative effects. I’m going to dive deeper into the negative effects.
Water Usage
AI has been deducting water from the environment. It only takes fresh water. AI uses 1 trillion liters of available drinking water per YEAR. AI is using so much of drinking water that really needs to be preserved. by 2030, scientists expect for AI to have consumed 9.3 trillion liters of water. And that is SO much what little drinking water we have.
Climate impacts
AI has high energy demands. These energy demands effect the world’s climate. AI is part of what’s causing climate change. As the weather gets warmer, we lose land and some of the and we lose goes to AI data centers. Animals are losing habitats because AI has been taking land for data centers.
Effects on animals
AI uses factory farming, intensifying animal suffering. AI also has the effect of increasing animals having poor conditions. AI is used to make very real videos of animals being cruel and attacking humans and livestock, often leading to misunderstanding. Some time ago, there was a fake AI photo saying that a ‘furry’ dressed in a wolf costume was mauled after trying to join a pack of wolves. This is an example of what AI can do to misunderstand the community.
